The dock Bangka in front of Sumilon Island

The picture on the upper left is a dock. Through it you get on the boat that takes you on a 30-minute ride to Sumilon island, Oslob — a slice of near-heaven with its sand bar and intimate, middle-of-nowhere ambience. While it’s better to go to this island via Dumaguete, it’s always nice to take that roadtrip from the city to the countryside. Observe your anxieties melt away as you drive, and you’ll believe me.

While there are many options available on the island — for one, romantic picnics for two, scuba diving another, a boat tour one more — the reason I’d come here the most is for good old-fashioned peace and quiet. Believe me, with Cebu developing at a rapid pace, we need it now more than ever. Rooms are, well, roomy and they all come with a view. Life is quiet, and you might want to try sleeping on the beach under a blanket of stars. On my last stay, I saw three shooting stars in one unbelievable night.

The beach is okay — you’ll be lying on naked white sand with barely a cabana to shade you from the sun. Some irresponsible beach-babies have left shards of broken glass on the beach. Sumilon island is open for daytrips and given the popularity of the resort, you’re bound to run across apathetic beachgoers. The water is an unbelievable blue but the bed is rarely anything other than coral and rock formations. Proper footwear is a must. It takes a while before you get to the deep in the normally low tide.

You’ll need to order food eventually but let me tell you that it’s nothing great for the price.

4. gateway - September 22, 2008

This island is not for business or commercial used. I am from siliman university. According to Dr. Jaime Alcala, the developer of this island is not cosulting the correct procedure to develop an island resort. OR maybe the developer and the municipal officials has intimate relationship//

I wanted to see the island too together with my BF, but I want to know hows the arrangement like if we are from Cebu City and if we like to have overnight stay? How much is the room rate? I see some figures shown in some other websites….is that per person, including transport and hotel with free breakfast?

Please if there is anyone can tell me the details I would love to know it.

Iplan to go there after new year…Jan 3 ,2011

hi i would like to ask if asa nga specific nga lugar sa oslob mohunong para paingon sa sumilon island?

14. zenaida zorro - November 5, 2010

16. nitchell - February 7, 2011

i was in sumilon last 2 yrs.we went there to swim but we didn’t go inside the beach. we stayed in some side of it where you can see the white sand fronting bangcogon. we just paid 100 i guess as i can remember. i think the rates in that resort is way over price. it’s crazy for that kind of resort. sounds like shangrila….huh? [only, not that much you know what i mean?]

Issay - March 3, 2011

Hey, any resort nga barato didto sa sumilon?

17. jewille - April 13, 2011

the place is really nice…the nature itself…though still there’s a lot of angles to develop but our overnight stay with my husband last August was really superb. Not wanting to miss the experience, we walked around the island through their mini forest. The experience is unforgettable.

18. Aya Remolin - May 17, 2011
